It’s not just a good resume or interview that lands you that job you are searching for, you also need a killer cover letter. Are you searching for work? Sending out the typical resume to every site on the internet? Chances of a resume getting pulled from the heaps of resumes that a business gets is slim unless there is a killer cover letter to get the Human Resources attention.
With an amazing cover letter, a person will get more interviews and more job offers in this competitive market of job seekers. Resumes have a certain flow to them. They gave the same typical form as all the John or Jane Doe’s use. A cover letter can go past the routine resume. First you need to address your letter to the person that is getting the resume. Try and find out their name. Use a sentence that will really get their attention. Not something like, I think I would be perfect for this job. Next, do not over do it. Get straight to the point. Not a time for rambling on. Let this person know what benefits you are going to bring to the company. Do a little behind the scenes work so you know what the company does and what would be expected of you. Make sure you pick words to use that show great interest and desire for this job. Be sure to carry this interest into the job interview. Use words that tell let the interviewer that you would like an interview soon. Show enthusiasm when ending your letter. Let the interviewer know how anxious you are about this opportunity. Say something like, I am really looking forward to this interview and would like it to be as soon as possible. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. Then you can say sincerely, and your name. This is showing that you are aggressively searching for a job and really plan on getting this interview.
This is the part of selling yourself to get in the door. That can be the hardest part of the interview. After the interview, send the interviewer a thank you letter. If needed you can use a follow up cover letter too. Make sure you somehow do a follow up on all calls, interviews or letters. Don’t just read it and assume they will be calling again. Keep yourself on top of their minds with communication. A cover letter can make it or break it for you.
